Soquel
From the seaside vistas of Capitola to the small-town appeal of nearby Soquel, this cozy region south of Santa Cruz is reminiscent of another time in history.. The town of Soquel lies just inland from Capitola, complete with antique stores, scenic two-lane roads, wonderful restaurants and family-operated wineries.
The name Soquel has a somewhat spurious history. The local tale of its name comes from a story in which a bartender yells, "Soak Hell" at a patron. However, the name comes from the local Native American tribe, the Soquel Indians. The name was later adopted by a wealthy investor from the east, Rancho Soquel.
With the population slightly over 5,000 people, Soquel has the small town appeal, close to  Monterey Bay, and just  minutes from Santa Cruz.
